How We Pack Our Cakes for Safe Delivery Across the UK

How We Pack Our Cakes for Safe Delivery

When you order a cake online, you’re placing a lot of trust in the baker.

You want to know that the cake has been made properly, handled carefully, and packed in a way that means it arrives exactly as it should — not damaged, dried out, or knocked about in transit.

At Grandpa’s Cakes, packing is just as important as baking. That’s why we wanted to show you, clearly and honestly, how we pack our cakes before they leave our kitchen.

👇 Watch the short video above to see our real packing process.

Why packing matters so much for fruit cake

Fruit cake is wonderfully robust, but it still deserves care.

A well-made fruit cake will travel beautifully if it’s packed properly. Done badly, even the best cake can arrive marked or compromised. Done well, it will arrive just as we intended — moist, intact, and ready to enjoy.

That’s why we don’t rush this stage, and we don’t outsource it.

What happens before a cake is packed

Before any cake is packed, it is:

  • Fully baked and carefully matured

  • Allowed to cool completely

  • Checked by hand before wrapping

Only once we’re happy with the cake do we move on to packing.

Our packing process (as shown in the video)

As you’ll see in the video, every cake is packed by hand in our kitchen.

Our process includes:

  • Shrink-wrapping each cake to lock in moisture and freshness

  • Placing the cake on a rigid board for stability

  • Using snug, protective packaging to prevent movement

  • Boxing the cake securely so it can withstand normal courier handling

Nothing is automated. Nothing is rushed. Each step is done with the expectation that this cake is heading somewhere important.

A small, real business — not a factory

The video shows our real workspace and real process.

We’re a small, independent bakery, and every cake that leaves us has been:

  • baked by hand

  • packed by hand

  • and prepared by people who genuinely care about the end result

Many customers tell us how reassuring it is to see who’s behind their order — and how their cake is handled before it leaves us.

That’s exactly why we wanted to share this.

Peace of mind when ordering online

Whether you’re ordering:

  • a wedding fruit cake

  • a celebration cake

  • or a gift for someone special

you should feel confident pressing “order”.

This video, and this post, are here to give you that reassurance — from our kitchen to your door.

If you ever have questions about delivery timing, storage, or ordering in advance, we’re always happy to help.

Because at Grandpa’s Cakes, we don’t just bake cakes for special moments —
we take care getting them there too.

How are Grandpa’s Cakes packaged for delivery?
Each cake is shrink-wrapped to lock in freshness, placed on a rigid board, and securely boxed by hand to prevent movement during delivery.

Will my cake arrive fresh?
Yes. Our fruit cakes are naturally long-lasting, and shrink-wrapping helps retain moisture so your cake arrives in excellent condition.

Are your cakes suitable for delivery across the UK?
Yes. Our cakes are packed specifically with courier delivery in mind and travel very well across the UK when handled as intended.

Do you pack wedding cakes differently?
Wedding fruit cakes are packed with the same care and attention, with additional consideration given to size and presentation.

Who packs the cakes?
All cakes are packed by us in our bakery — not by a fulfilment centre or warehouse.
