  • Preservatives are used to extend the shelf-life but can sometimes affect people with asthma or eczema and cause hyperactivity and weight gain.
  • Hydrogenated oils containing trans fats are known to raise cholesterol, which can lead to an increased risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
  • Artificial colouring is used to enhance the appearance of some baked goods but research suggests it could be linked to hyperactivity in children.
  • Salt is often used to enhance the flavour of store-bought cakes. According to the NHS, a diet high in salt can increase the risk of stroke and heart disease.

We boil the fruit for three reasons:

  1. Boiling fruit before adding it to the cake batter can help to extend the shelf life by keeping the cake moist and fresh for longer.
  1. Boiling fruit helps release the juices and concentrate the flavour to enhance the taste, boost the aroma, and supercharge the deliciousness.

It all began back in 2008 when Grandpa Stuart realised there was a gap in the market for a quality ‘homemade’ fruit cake to eat with your coffee.
His eureka moment - "Why don't I make a few and see how they go." - has seen his cherished family fruit cake recipe evolve into a thriving family business with admirers around the world.
