🧁 How Much Wedding Cake Do You Really Need? A Slice-by-Slice Guide from Grandpa’s Cakes

Planning a wedding is full of sweet decisions – and few are sweeter than the cake. But one question we get asked all the time is: “How much wedding cake do I need for my guest list?” Whether you're hosting an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, here's our slice-by-slice guide to help you choose the perfect size.

🎂 How Many Servings Per Cake Size?

Here’s how our most popular wedding fruit cake sizes break down:

Cake Size Shape Approx. Servings
6-inch Round 10-12 slices
8-inch Round 20-25 slices
10-inch Round 40-50 slices
12-inch Round 70-80 slices
2-Tier (6” & 8”) Round 30-35 slices
3-Tier (6”, 8” & 10”) Round or Square 60-80 slices

(Serving estimates are based on 70g slices – a generous portion of rich fruit cake.)

🥂 What Size Cake for 50, 75 or 100 Guests?

Here's our quick recommendation:

  • 20-40 guests → 8” or 10” round cake

  • 30-35 guests → 2-tier cake (6" & 8")

  • 60–80 guests → 3-tier cake (6", 8", 10")

  • 100+ guests → Consider adding a second 8” cake or serving bars

Don’t forget: fruit cake is rich and often sliced thinner than sponge, so it stretches further!

🎨 DIY Decoration? You’ve Got Options

At Grandpa’s Cakes, all our wedding fruit cakes come either plain iced (perfect for ribbon, flowers or toppers), or fully iced and ready to go. This means you can style your cake to match your day, without the stress of baking.

📦 Can I Order in Advance?

Absolutely. Our fruit cakes last up to 4 months from delivery when stored correctly. We recommend placing your order 1 month before the big day to allow plenty of time for decoration and delivery.

🍰 From Suffolk, with Love

All our cakes are handmade in small batches from our bakery in Suffolk, using our signature brandy-soaked fruit (don’t worry – the alcohol is cooked out). It’s tradition, flavour, and care in every slice.
